Our Coffee

Our coffee comes from local farmers and out growers in Bulambuli district in Uganda. Farmers receive a fair price for every good cherry delivered. This guarantees high quality coffee with the finest aromas and flavors.

Naginzole

Naginzole coffee, named after the Black Crested Bulbul bird is a product of Balambuli Kwigate Coffee (BKC) which processes the finest aromas and taste of Bulambuli coffee growing region. The coffee is grown by smallholder farmers at an altitude between 1800 to 2300 meters above sea level which allows for slow maturation and fruit formation that leads to the production of very fine coffee. It is called Naginzole not only because of its fine aroma like the beautiful Naginzole bird, but also because of our interest in promoting sustainable agricultural practices that do not threaten the extinction of endangered species like the Naginzole bird. Our naturals are carefully sorted, floated and right away spread on the drying beds to allow for even fermentation and drying which lasts between 15-20 days depending on the weather condition.

Zinule

Zinule coffee is a brand for our fully washed coffees that are produced in a traditional way i.e. carefully selected red cherries by a team of men and women, floated in floating tanks to remove the defects and then pulped using an eco-pulping machine. The coffees are then fermented in open but well-built concrete fermentation tanks for anywhere between 12-36 hours depending on the prevailing temperatures at the washing station which is based in Bulambuli district on the slopes of Mt Elgon. The coffees are then washed using clean water until all the mucilage is removed. We drip the coffee for a few minutes before ferrying it to the well ventilated parabolic dryer. Here the coffee stays for anywhere between 2- 3 days before being transported to our drying yard down in Mbale for final drying and storage.
